A spokesman for the Food and Drug Administration said the drug's safety and efficacy have been carefully evaluated, but hasn't been approved. "We are very concerned about the possibility of side effects associated with this drug, including erectile dysfunction," the agency said in a statement. "The FDA has determined that the drugs have not been shown to be effective in the treatment of impotence or other related conditions."
The drug is approved for use in patients with erectile dysfunction, impotence symptoms and low blood pressure, the agency said.
Patients are advised to consult their doctor or go to the nearest pharmacy. The drug is only available from a doctor's office.
The FDA has not given a final green light for the drugs.
The drugs have been available only on prescription, with the exception of sildenafil, the drug for erectile dysfunction.
